compareTundra | & | Temperate Forests
The tundra is another biome of the world which is significantly different to the temperate deciduous forest biome. Tundra is the world's coldest temperature biome. This biome does not rain nearly as much as the temperate forest does. The tundra's yearly rainfall is around 0-50mm whereas the temperate has an average of 75-150cm of rain per year. That's a big difference! In Winter, the tundra's average temperature is about -34 degrees Celsius and the temperate forest's average Winter temperature is around -5 degrees Celsius. The temperate forest average Summer temperature is around 10 degrees Celsius and the tundra's Summers usually get to around 3-12 degrees Celsius. The reason why tundras are so different to temperate forests could be that they are located so far North and South in the world. The tundra is located in the arctic areas of the world (i.e. North Pole and Antarctica and sometimes Europe and Asia) whereas the temperate forest is located in the middle of major countries/continents such as; North America, Europe, Asia and Australasia. It is very important to have many biomes which are so different from each other, as they are all the homes to different animals or plant life. Tundras are home to arctic animals such as; polar bears, arctic foxes, white wolves, grizzly bears and many more just like this. The temperate has animals situated in it that would not be able to survive in the tundra biome. Of these animals include; eagles, bats, deer, kangaroo, koala and coyote. |
